The Great Story behind loving a Rescue Dog<3 Tara's Story
Ever since I was a little girl, I loved all animals. I would save any living creature that came across my path! Literally, I guess I just loved taking care of another living being and I always fell in love at first sight, always devoted to the end.
My rescue "Tara" came to me by pure fate, while I was still mourning the loss of my beloved dog "Bear" and I had been thinking about adopting, of all things a "Wolf Hybrid". I had been researching and thought they were such beautiful animals and found an adoption site that I thought of contacting, but later decided it might not be the right time yet.
A couple weeks later, I was driving home after a quick shoping trip and noticed a beautiful black medium sized dog pacing on the side of a busy highway, thinking of crossing. Naturally, I went into panic and rescue mode, horrified at the thought of seeing this dog get hit by a car, I was willing to risk it all so I parked my car on the side of the road and started calling to this nomadic wanderer but she wanted "NOTHING" to do with me, so still in panic mode, I ran into the nearest gas station across the street and grabbed the first thing I saw, which happened to be Beef Jerky! So off I go with jerky in hand to the previous location where we were standing and I began leaving a trail of beef jerky on the ground in hopes that she would come closer, but this was not the case at all, she took off into the great wide open, while I went home feeling totally defeated and a little crazy, to be quite honest.
The following morning, I woke with great confidence in bringing this dog home!!I just can't give up, so I gathered left overs from the fridge and hoped that if I left them, she would smell the food and begin to trust me. I got in my car and drove to the spot that I had seen her the day before and started calling out to her but she was no where to be seen, so I left the food and decided to go back later that day to spot her. Well, when I got back to the location later in the day, all of the food was gone, but I couldnt find her anywhere, so I left more food and went home for the night, mentally exhausted. The next Morning I decided to go pretty early in the Morning, just sure I was going to find her dead somewhere, I wasn't feeling very optimistic at this point but I needed closure because this just couldn't go on but to my surprise this amazing and stubborn dog that i had tried so hard to earn her trust was curled up in a ball in the exact location that I left the food the past few days, the same place that she had ran from me the day before. I started calling to her and she lifted her head up and I noticed something I never noticed before, "She had one blue eye!! Wow, she was really beautiful and unique in every way. I decided to put some food down for her but I did not try to grab her as I knew she was nervous and would probably take off like before and I felt we were somehow making progress.
The following morning, I decided to call animal control and I asked them if they had spotted any stray dogs with one blue eye and one brown eye, and gave them the location that I had seen her at previously, and by surprise the women on the other line at animal control said , I just received a call about a dog in that area, give me your number and I will let you know!! This just seemed to good to be true but later that afternoon, I received a call saying that the dog she picked up indeed had a blue eye!! I never doubted from that moment on, that I would finally get to meet this nomadic wanderer. I went to meet her the following day and ended up adopting her out of the shelter the day before Thanksgiving.
Ten years later, she is the sweetest most amazing dog I could have asked for and I have been forever grateful and so glad I noticed that defining Blue eye!!
I love sharing this story with others because it made such an impact on me. Rescue dogs are just so amazing, and so are the amazing stories that go along with the rescue!! You develop such a deep bond and appreciation for one another, it's such a winning situation for all involved!!
